My thermostat screen is blank. Is it broken?
Often not. A blank display commonly means a condensate float switch has cut power because the drain backed up, or a low-voltage fuse has blown. Both need fixing, and neither is solved by a new thermostat.
Can I install a smart thermostat myself?
Many people do, but heat pumps are where it goes wrong — miswired staging can run auxiliary heat constantly and cost far more than the thermostat saved. We wire it to match the equipment.
Will a smart thermostat lower my bill?
It can help, mainly through scheduling and not conditioning an empty house. It will not compensate for a low charge, dirty coil or leaking ducts.
The temperature reading seems wrong. What causes that?
A thermostat in direct sun, on an exterior wall, or above a lamp will read high. A failed sensor also does it. We check placement as well as the device.
